George L. Hanbury II is the Executive Vice President for Administration of Nova Southeastern University

Prior to his appointment as executive vice president, he had a career in municipal administration totaling more than thirty years, and was the chief executive officer (city manager), to the following cities: Fort Lauderdale, Florida, Portsmouth, Virginia, and Virginia Beach, Virginia. In addition, he was an Assistant City Manager in the cities of Norfolk, and Virginia Beach, Virginia,

Mr. Hanbury received his Ph.D. in Public Administration at Florida Atlantic University. Mr. Hanbury research dissertation was titled "The Function of Leadership Styles and Personality Types Among City Managers: An Analysis of "Fit" and Tenure." He also holds a Master’s Degree in Public Administration from Old Dominion University, A Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. In addition, he has been certified through the Senior Executive Institute at the University of Virginia.

Mary Vail

Mary Vail brings almost 20 years of local government management experience to Gerald Plock Associates, Inc. She has had extensive experience working with both elected and appointed officials. Mary has worked for local governments in California, Illinois and Texas.

At Gerald Plock Associates, Inc., Ms. Vail assists with developing recruitment profiles, research and identification of candidates and reference checks.

Ms. Vail has served as the Administrator of the City/County Association of Governments of San Mateo, C.A. and managed the operations of the joint powers authority of the County reporting to a 21-member Board. Previously she served as the Assistant to the Executive Director the Association of Bay Area Governments and worked directly with a 36-member Board. She served as the C.O.G.’s budget director, director of legislative affairs and as liaison between the association, local governments and the State of California. Previously she served as the Assistant City Manager in the newly incorporated city of San Ramon. She has also served as an Administrative Assistant to the City Manager Highland Park, Il and Administrative Intern in Walnut Creek, CA.

Mary hold’s a Bachelor’s degree from Illinois State University and a Master of Public Administration from Northern Illinois University.

Wendy Lewis 

Wendy Lewis is responsible for candidate correspondence and developing and maintaining an extensive candidate database. She also provides research assistance for candidate sourcing and screening and assists with background checks and print media searches. Ms. Lewis provides technical assistance in the firms marketing efforts. Ms. Lewis works closely with clients to assist with recruitment timetables and logistics.

Ms. Lewis has worked with Gerald Plock Associates, Inc. since its formation. She has had experience in a diverse range of executive search assignments. She has proven herself to be a very valuable member of our search team. Wendy has exceptional "people" skills in interacting with both clients and candidates.

Previously, she served in the marketing departments of the corporate headquarters of J.C. Penney Company, Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) and the mortgage lending industry.

Ms. Lewis received her Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from the University of North Texas.

Sarah F. Higginbotham

Ms. Higginbotham is an experienced human resource professional who has served as a senior manager in public, private and non-profit organizations, helping ensure compliance with federal, state and local regulations as they pertained to the recruitment, selection, examination and certification of candidates.

She has a unique ability to bring consensus and to craft partnering strategies to reverse adversarial roles between stakeholders, and she is experienced at working collaboratively with the EEO Office, managers, supervisors and employee groups to help an organization achieve its Diversity Hiring Goals. Her strong analytical and technical skills coupled with her innovative problem solving abilities have been critical in identifying barriers and finding solutions for all phases of the selection, promotion and retention processes.

She has provided technical assistance and training to employers and organizations dealing with persons with disabilities, nontraditional employment for women, senior executive recruitment and outreach and recruitment for a variety of positions. Nationally known, Ms. Higginbotham maintains an impressive network of individuals and organizations representing Asian, Hispanic, and Africa-American and persons with disabilities.
